Kind of a long story here...
Sure we've been designing all sorts of excellent vintage themed pickups for some time now. In fact, I'd venture to guess that GFS Strat sets might be among the best selling single coil sets in the world right now- Why mess with success??
We wanted to try and wind a pickup with a fairly vintage output, to get the swampy, syrupy SRV tones, but find a way to get a little more punch and pop. Kind of like dialing in a little bit of modern character without losing the vintage tones.
We get wire samples from all over the world on a daily basis, and one day this amazing spool of BRIGHT BLUE wire showed up. "Oh don't worry about that color", said the supplier, "We can make it look like the stuff you're using now"... No- I like it! Of course, if the tone ain't there, who cares what it looks like.
Well we wound up a few and through some trial and error got a formula that really delivers the goods. We call them "Boston Blues" and blues power is what they're all about.
This is the "Texas" set- which combines an overwound 8K Bridge pickup with a vintage 5.5K mid and 5.2K Neck. They have the clarity, sweetnes and transparency of a good vintage set in the neck and middle, a super crunchy modern sounding bridge pickup, with an almost EMG-like punch and sustain. A great rock set that maintains some Jimi tones for the neck and mid.
if you want a straight up vintage set these are not for you- but if you want more power and pop, and especially if you play with a lot of effects- I can't think of a better set.
The middle pickup is NOT wound RW/RP so positions 2 and 4 remain super-syrupy! And we ship each boxed, retail packaged, calibrated set with BOTh white and CLEAR pickup covers!
